Experience – Ask questions directly related to the experience you require. Do you plan to incorporate your business? Then, ask about experience with handling incorporations. A trustworthy attorney should be able and willing to openly discuss such matters.

Connections – It not what you know. It is who you know. This is as true, if not more so, in the legal field, as it is in any other. Before you hire an attorney, you want to know that you are getting the most for your money. Your business may have specific legal needs, ones that are outside your attorney's scope of expertise. Why start all over again? You want a lawyer who is familiar with those areas.

Other Clients – An attorney may have a business law practice, but does he or she know your industry? It is good to know that an attorney has or has had other clients in your industry and its legal environment.

Education –  Can the attorney educate you on topics ranging from the legal environment of your business to how certain laws impact your business?  This is important. Some attorneys post blog entries, such as this one, to keep clients informed.
